Hiawatha homes for sale
Situated along the southeastern border of Minneapolis is the neighborhood of Hiawatha, which is part of the greater Longfellow community. The neighborhood received its name because of the school by the same name that existed in the area before the neighborhood was officially established – Hiawatha Elementary School. The school was named after a poem by the famous author Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in the 1800s. His poem – The Song of Hiawatha – served as the inspiration for naming the school and eventually the surrounding neighborhood. The Hiawatha neighborhood is bordered by 40th Street, 54th Street East, Hiawatha Avenue and the great Mississippi River. The river serves as a great place for recreational opportunities all year long or just a place to sit along the banks and reflect during the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Hiawatha is also located along the light-rail transit system which connects it to downtown Minneapolis and other sections of the city, including the Mall of America and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. About a third of the entire neighborhood is made of open land and parks.
